The New York Times is an infamous newspaper that provides information about every aspect that journalism could possibly thrive in. It is also known for ranking best selling books, and publishing political articles. When writing a paper about the research done under social media’s impact and its cause of desensitization in people, it is important to understand that it would belong best under the science and research section.
The best part about publishing through the New York Times is because it is credible digitally and on paper. Even though the digital part of The New York Times can be a little concerning considering that it would be proving the article’s point, it would still have the potential of reaching a higher and wider audience. Many people look to the New York Times as a credible and professional source, so even if it is taken out of the journalism aspect and posted unto social media, the mention of the New York Times will automatically draw viewers to hold the post in a more credible fashion. It isn’t just a leftist or right wing page that is posting their opinion, but rather it would be a credible mention of science through one of the largest publishing magazines in the world.
Whenever it comes to publishing, genre is considered one, if not the, most important aspect to base the decision off of. In Naming What We Know, Bill Hart-Davidson and Neal Lerner visit the impact of genre on the audience and publishing. “The view of genre has several interesting implications most new-comers to the idea find challenging and fascinating. One is that no single text is a general; it can only be an instance of that genre as it enters into contexts (activity systems) where it might be taken up as such an instance.” (NWWK, 40) Establishing genre as something that clarifies where an entire body of text belongs helps people to know what to look and search for when it comes to certain information. In other words, it prevents people who look for Shakespeare type pieces from running into research papers or data forms. Publishing my research piece under the correct section, and through a publication venue that visits all of those genres, allows it to reach the right audience and be handled with effective effort.
In conclusion, publishing a research paper through the New York Times is the best publication venue to go through because of the separation of genres, and the multiple audiences that are able to come across it. Furthermore, the New York Times is available to people with phones, or just the large percentage of people that walk through the streets of New York with no social media presence. Either way, the science research of social media desensitization would be of benefit to both.
